What You Get

What do you get when you marry an engineer?

Well, the first thing you might notice is a closet overrun with plaid shirts. Next you will discover a husband who is both determined and talented at solving all household problems, from why your favorite wheat bread recipe abruptly stopped rising to why the light fixture in the basement doesn't work.

Then in a few years you may notice your son picking up some of his dad's tendencies...like constructing a little snow plow by lashing a snow shovel to the front of his sister's trike, tossing a few scoops of rock salt in the back bucket, and happily pedaling down the sidewalk.

That's what I get for marrying an engineer. It's a pretty good deal all around.

Seven Years

Seven years ago today I awoke early. Cameron called me while I was driving to my hair appointment--somewhere around 6:45am. He joked that he had always been an early riser. We still laugh about it because we both know he actually isn't a morning person at all--we were both just so excited to be getting married that day.
He picked me up from my hair appointment and we drove to the temple talking giddily about how happy we were and what a perfect day it was. It was the beginning of many incredibly wonderful days and a few miserable ones. Through pregnancies, sleepless nights, juggling little people's needs, temper tantrums, sick kids, cancer trauma, and ocular dismemberment, he has been incredibly steady, selfless, and faithful. Thank goodness I found him. Seven years later I still think I am one lucky wife!

No Wonder

He wakes up early and goes to work to provide for our family. His weekends and evenings are crammed with classes, homework, and church obligations, but he still works to find time for weekly dates with me and quality play time with our kids. I never wonder about his priorities: I know that we are most important to him. And every once in a while, I find he has done something like this:

The note on the mirror reads: Bathroom cleaned by your loving husband
No wonder I love Cameron so much!
